OK...ok..... ..ok ...basically IBM have made a computer that you can ask questions in english speech and it will understand the question and then search through its ridiculously big database (its not connected to internet btw) and actually find the correct answer!!! that is like some star-trek type shit!!!
Theyve been using the challenge of the game-show "jeopardy" in order to make it better, but the whole point of the project is to have a computer that can find all the relevant data for humans in our massive sea of data that we have and is too big for us to comprehend anymore. imo this is one of the seeds of AI superseeding humans and taking over (and destroying us) i cant wait!!

Its the coolest thing ive seen in a while, it has a whole "tron" sort of aesthetic going on and it is all inspred by electronic music, its basically like what it would be like if you were inside a sequencer/snythesiser. Really cool experience!
(you may need a fairly decent computer with graphics card to run it tho!)

If you look up ‘tea’ in the first cookery book that comes to hand you will probably find that it is unmentioned; or at most you will find a few lines of sketchy instructions which give no ruling on several of the most important points.

This is curious, not only because tea is one of the main stays of civilization in this country, as well as in Eire, Australia and New Zealand, but because the best manner of making it is the subject of violent disputes.

When I look through my own recipe for the perfect cup of tea, I find no fewer than 11 outstanding points. On perhaps two of them there would be pretty general agreement, but at least four others are acutely controversial. Here are my own 11 rules, every one of which I regard as golden:

First of all, one should use Indian or Ceylonese tea. China tea has virtues which are not to be despised nowadays—it is economical, and one can drink it without milk—but there is not much stimulation in it. One does not feel wiser, braver or more optimistic after drinking it. Anyone who has used that comforting phrase ‘a nice cup of tea’ invariably means Indian tea.
Secondly, tea should be made in small quantities—that is, in a teapot. Tea out of an urn is always tasteless, while army tea, made in a cauldron, tastes of grease and whitewash. The teapot should be made of china or earthenware. Silver or Britanniaware teapots produce inferior tea and enamel pots are worse; though curiously enough a pewter teapot (a rarity nowadays) is not so bad.
Thirdly, the pot should be warmed beforehand. This is better done by placing it on the hob than by the usual method of swilling it out with hot water.
Fourthly, the tea should be strong. For a pot holding a quart, if you are going to fill it nearly to the brim, six heaped teaspoons would be about right. In a time of rationing, this is not an idea that can be realized on every day of the week, but I maintain that one strong cup of tea is better than twenty weak ones. All true tea lovers not only like their tea strong, but like it a little stronger with each year that passes—a fact which is recognized in the extra ration issued to old-age pensioners.
Fifthly, the tea should be put straight into the pot. No strainers, muslin bags or other devices to imprison the tea. In some countries teapots are fitted with little dangling baskets under the spout to catch the stray leaves, which are supposed to be harmful. Actually one can swallow tea-leaves in considerable quantities without ill effect, and if the tea is not loose in the pot it never infuses properly.
Sixthly, one should take the teapot to the kettle and not the other way about. The water should be actually boiling at the moment of impact, which means that one should keep it on the flame while one pours. Some people add that one should only use water that has been freshly brought to the boil, but I have never noticed that it makes any difference.
Seventhly, after making the tea, one should stir it, or better, give the pot a good shake, afterwards allowing the leaves to settle.
Eighthly, one should drink out of a good breakfast cup—that is, the cylindrical type of cup, not the flat, shallow type. The breakfast cup holds more, and with the other kind one’s tea is always half cold—before one has well started on it.
Ninthly, one should pour the cream off the milk before using it for tea. Milk that is too creamy always gives tea a sickly taste.
Tenthly, one should pour tea into the cup first. This is one of the most controversial points of all; indeed in every family in Britain there are probably two schools of thought on the subject. The milk-first school can bring forward some fairly strong arguments, but I maintain that my own argument is unanswerable. This is that, by putting the tea in first and stirring as one pours, one can exactly regulate the amount of milk whereas one is liable to put in too much milk if one does it the other way round.
Lastly, tea—unless one is drinking it in the Russian style—should be drunk without sugar. I know very well that I am in a minority here. But still, how can you call yourself a true tea-lover if you destroy the flavour of your tea by putting sugar in it? It would be equally reasonable to put in pepper or salt. Tea is meant to be bitter, just as beer is meant to be bitter. If you sweeten it, you are no longer tasting the tea, you are merely tasting the sugar; you could make a very similar drink by dissolving sugar in plain hot water.

Some people would answer that they don’t like tea in itself, that they only drink it in order to be warmed and stimulated, and they need sugar to take the taste away. To those misguided people I would say: Try drinking tea without sugar for, say, a fortnight and it is very unlikely that you will ever want to ruin your tea by sweetening it again.

These are not the only controversial points to arise in connection with tea drinking, but they are sufficient to show how subtilized the whole business has become.

There is also the mysterious social etiquette surrounding the teapot (why is it considered vulgar to drink out of your saucer, for instance?) and much might be written about the subsidiary uses of tealeaves, such as telling fortunes, predicting the arrival of visitors, feeding rabbits, healing burns and sweeping the carpet.

It is worth paying attention to such details as warming the pot and using water that is really boiling, so as to make quite sure of wringing out of one’s ration the 20 good, strong cups that two ounces, properly handled, ought to represent.

2. YOUR GUITAR IS NOT REALLY A GUITAR
Your guitar is a divining rod. Use it to find spirits in the other world and bring them over. A guitar is also a fishing rod. If you're good, you'll land a big one.
3. PRACTICE IN FRONT OF A BUSH
Wait until the moon is out, then go outside, eat a multi-grained bread and play your guitar to a bush. If the bush doesn't shake, eat another piece of bread.
4. WALK WITH THE DEVIL
Old delta blues players referred to amplifiers as the "devil box." And they were right. You have to be an equal opportunity employer in terms of who you're bringing over from the other side. Electricity attracts demons and devils. Other instruments attract other spirits. An acoustic guitar attracts Casper. A mandolin attracts Wendy. But an electric guitar attracts Beelzebub.
5. IF YOU'RE GUILTY OF THINKING, YOU'RE OUT
If your brain is part of the process, you're missing it. You should play like a drowning man, struggling to reach shore. If you can trap that feeling, then you have something that is fur bearing.
6. NEVER POINT YOUR GUITAR AT ANYONE
Your instrument has more power than lightning. Just hit a big chord, then run outside to hear it. But make sure you are not standing in an open field.
7. ALWAYS CARRY YOUR CHURCH KEY
You must carry your key and use it when called upon. That's your part of the bargain. Like One String Sam. He was a Detroit street musician in the fifties who played a homemade instrument. His song "I Need A Hundred Dollars" is warm pie. Another church key holder is Hubert Sumlin, Howlin' Wolf's guitar player. He just stands there like the Statue of Liberty making you want to look up her dress to see how he's doing it.
8. DON'T WIPE THE SWEAT OFF YOUR INSTRUMENT
You need that stink on there. Then you have to get that stink onto your music.
9. KEEP YOUR GUITAR IN A DARK PLACE
When you're not playing your guitar, cover it and keep it in a dark place. If you don't play your guitar for more than a day, be sure to put a saucer of water in with it.
10. YOU GOTTA HAVE A HOOD FOR YOUR ENGINE
Wear a hat when you play and keep that hat on. A hat is a pressure cooker. If you have a roof on your house the hot air can't escape. Even a lima bean has to have a wet paper towel around it to make it grow.

Also just out of fairness, here are electric guitar reviews 10 tips for guitar maintainance!

Here are the 10 maintenance rules that everyone should follow to keep their guitar in pristine condition:

Wash your hands before playing. Your hands are oily and dirty. Washing your hands before playing can preserve the fingerboard as well as prolong the life of your strings.
Before you put your guitar away in it’s case always wipe it down with a damp cloth to remove any hand oils that may be on it. Not a wet cloth, just a cloth that is slightly dampened.
Put that guitar in it’s case! Yeah, it’s fun to display them for everyone to see, but your guitar doesn’t like to be exposed to anything. It doesn’t like changing temperatures, changing humidity, or direct sunlight.
You know those black canvas gig bags? Yeah, forget they ever existed. Get a real hardshell case.
Properly humidify your guitar. Get a case humidifier and find out what the manufacturer of your guitar suggests the relative humidity should be.
Have your guitar’s bridge and neck setup properly for the gauge of strings you are using. If you change string gauges, have your guitar setup properly for the new strings. Obviously you don’t want to do this too often. If you know how to do this yourself that is great! If you don’t, you might want to get a professional to do it.
Keep your guitar clear of any heavy temperature changes. Wood expands and contracts. If the temperature changes too quickly it expands and contracts too quickly – this is bad.
Change your strings on a regular basis and never remove them all at one time! Remove one string at a time to replace them. Keeping your strings at the proper tension will keep that neck healthy.
Play your guitar every day. Thats right – play it. What happens when you leave your car parked for a few months and then try and start it up? It doesn’t really like that very much, whether it tells you or not. Run your guitar through it’s paces, it’s good for it.
Follow the above steps, and never, ever, let anyone else touch your guitar. Only kidding.

This cracked me up! Failblog is probably the most consistently funny site on internet. I dont want to analyze it too much but I reckon it is the juxtaposition of lots of differnt things one after another that make it so funny. I really like this instrument! it has such a low sustain, it sounds like a sort of popcorn type synth instrument. Its weird, most synths are based on already existing real-world instruments and this is like a real world instrument made to imitate a synth (perhaps, at least it sounds like that). Also I like the way that in order to play it you have to whack the pipes like crazy! it looks like a pretty good work out! Also it doesnt seem like a very good quality audio recording, this thing probably sounds way better irl.

Hey! some dude made a "practical" jetpack (actually it is a personal helicopter) and is selling them for only $75,000 ! Kinda stressful tho as you can only fly for 30 minutes and damn well better land before then or you will die!!

Also I'm aware that this design has been touted by conspiracy/aviation nuts as feasible for years (apparently the guy who is selling them now spent 27 years desinging it!), I remember in "myth-busters" they tested something very similar for faesibility and said "no" I guess they feel like fools now!!

Some guy" who has mastered the art of playing flute and beatboxing simultaneously, at first I thought this was some sort of joke/edited thing but apparently not, he is in some band and has albums and stuff (I guess it could still all be a joke tho!)

EDIT: also something about this guy makes me immediately hate him really intensely for no reason. Maybe Im just jealous of his flute/beatbox skills....(also that eyebrow thing at the end of the video)

Also as a chilling counterpoint to that here is a bear with chainsaw arms, now thats a killin' machine!!!

This is worth playing for great grapics and presentation, not really much "game" there at all tho. Still, its so pretty it gets my grimace of approval

If you want a "real mans game" try this. Quite challenging puzzle game. Its good, my only criticism is that they add another layer of difficulty with the "awkward interface" challenge. Also dont listen to the music, it will drive you crazy its a loop about 4 seconds long!!

Very realistic sculptures, but IMO the term "hyper-realistic" is an oxymoron, how can something be "a lot more realistic" than something that is actually real!? Unless thay mean that its "a lot more realistic" than other crappy sculptures, then presumably in the future when technology enables sculptures to be even more realistic these will no longer officially be "hyper-realistic"

By the way that TED thing (talks about shit, some of which are interesting) is actually happening right now in California. Though a lot of the stuff seems completely frivolous. IMO there should be more talks about climate change and the imminent collapse of society!!!

Just saw this film and I highly recommend it. Its about the underground video journalists who report the news in Burma (video cameras and such are not allowed there) The film focuses on the recent popular uprising there (in late 2007 remember?) that was put down cruelly by the miltary dictatorship much like the one in 1988.

Honestly I dont get the idea of "peaceful protest" Che Guevara may have been a crazy monster-like figure but I agree with him on certain points, one is that when he was invited by friends (when he was young) to join an anti-government protest he replied that he wouldnt go out on the street without a gun. Too right! whats the point of getting a big crowd of people together and marching when you will just be tear-gassed and shot and arrested?
If all those burmese monks stopped wasting their time praying and such and instead trained as elite guerilla troops they would kick ass! (It is worth noting that burmese guerilla's working with SOE totally kicked the japaneses ass in WWII) I cant think of a single example of a completely peaceful revolution against an oppressive regieme (even gandhi had to kick some bottom!)
